Getting a CSV from your bank
Every bank's online banking site lets you download your transaction history. The exact menu wording differs, but the general idea is the same everywhere: find your account's transaction list, then look for a download or export option.
This guide covers the general steps for a few large banks as a starting point. It doesn't cover every bank, and menus change over time. If your bank isn't listed here, or these steps don't quite match what you see, look for a "Download," "Export," or "Activity" option near your transaction list, or call your bank's customer support line and ask how to export your account activity as a CSV file.
Chase
- Log in at chase.com or in the Chase Mobile app.
- Open the account you want (checking, savings, or credit card).
- In the account activity list, look for a download icon (usually a small arrow) near the top of the transaction table.
- Choose a date range, then select "Spreadsheet" or CSV as the file type.
- Download the file.
Bank of America
- Log in to Online Banking at bankofamerica.com.
- Select the account you want.
- Find "Download Transactions" near the account activity list.
- Choose a date range and a file format: pick Microsoft Excel or a plain spreadsheet/CSV option if it's offered.
- Download the file.
Wells Fargo
- Log in to Wells Fargo Online.
- Open Account Activity for the account you want.
- Click "Download Account Activity" near the top of the transaction table.
- Choose your date range, then choose "Comma delimited" as the format, which is the CSV option, even though it's not always labeled "CSV."
- Download the file.
Once you have the file, come back and either drop it in or paste its contents, either works, and TailorBudget figures out the columns on its own.
